What Actually Happens When You Open a Website?
A single click can trigger DNS resolution, encrypted connections, HTTP requests, rendering, and many background decisions.
You type a domain, press Enter, and a page appears. It feels like one action. Underneath, it is a chain.
First: the name becomes an address
DNS resolves a human-readable domain name to the network address needed to reach the service.
Then: a connection is established
For HTTPS, the browser and server establish an encrypted connection and validate the certificate presented for the domain.
Then HTTP takes over
The browser requests HTML, which can reference stylesheets, scripts, images, fonts, and additional data.
Finally: the browser builds the page
HTML provides structure, CSS presentation, and JavaScript can add behavior. The browser combines them into the page you see.
